Job Title: Surgical Assistant

Location: Cincinnati, OH 45219

Duration: 2-month contract (extendable)

Shift: 8 hrs./day, 40 hrs./week (06:30 AM – 05:30 PM)

Pay: $56/hour

Required:

• Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited program in Surgical Technology OR Foreign Medical Graduate with at least 3 years of Surgical Assistance experience in the U.S. (case-by-case review).

• BLS Certification (American Heart Association).

Preferred:

• NSAA, CFA (AST), or RNFA certification through NASC.

• Position patients as directed by the surgeon to optimize surgical site exposure.

• Provide clear visualization of the operative field by:

  • Placement and securing of retractors.

  • Packing with sponges.

  • Digital manipulation of tissue.

  • Suctioning, irrigating, or sponging.

  • Manipulation of suture materials.

  • Using proper body mechanics to prevent obstruction.

• Assist with hemostasis using appropriate surgical techniques.

• Perform wound closure techniques, including:

  • Subcutaneous suturing (absorbable or non-absorbable).

  • Subcuticular closures with or without adhesive strips.

  • Skin closure with sutures or staples, as directed.

• Administer postoperative subcutaneous local anesthetics as directed by the surgeon.

• Select and apply wound dressings (occlusive sprays, absorbent materials, immobilizing dressings).

• Assist with securing drainage systems to tissue.

• Independently assist with vein, radial artery, tendon, bone, or skin harvesting and closures in specialized cases (under supervision of a surgeon).

• Provide expert assistance in all major surgical cases.

• Stay updated on new technologies, techniques, and practices in surgical specialties.
